A jukebox musical written by British playwright Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, former members of the band. The title of the musical is taken from the group's 1975 chart-topper "Mamma Mia".

The musical includes such hits as "Super Trouper", "Lay All Your Love on Me", "Dancing Queen", "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "Take a Chance on Me", "Thank You for the Music", "Money, Money, Money", "The Winner Takes It All", "Voulez-Vous", "SOS" and "Mamma Mia".

The Broadway show closed on September 12, 2015, after a 14-year run, making it the ninth longest-running show in Broadway history.

CAST

Donna Sheridan -Free-spirited, former lead singer in a group called “Donna and the Dynamos” who now owns and runs a hotel/casino on a Greek island. A strong feminist who also has a zany and vulnerable side. Honest, straight and hard-working, she is the most naturalistic and vulnerable of the characters. Delivers some of the biggest solos in the show. (The Winner Takes it All, Slipping Through My Fingers, Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Money Money, among others.)  Must move well. (mezzo-soprano) E3-A5

Sophie Sheridan- Donna’s headstrong 21-year-old daughter, Sophie is determined to have what her mother never had: a traditional family and a father to walk her down the aisle. Young, bright and energetic, she has lived all her life on the island and is ready to leave. (I Have a Dream, Honey Honey, The Name of the Game, Lay All Your Love on Me, Under Attack, among others) Must move well. (pop soprano) F#3-E5

Tanya Side - One of Donna’s oldest and best friends, Tanya has married several millionaires and discovered a lot more about plastic surgery than love – to the extent that she was ever looking. Wild, fun-loving and a big character, she flirts mercilessly with young men, happy to play, but not to stick around. (Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Does Your Mother Know, among others) Must move well. (mezzo-soprano) E3-E5

Rosie Mulligan - Donna’s friend, a former member of the Dynamos; unmarried, free-spirited and a renowned author of cookbooks. A character who has developed a confident, funny and self-deprecating exterior which masks her inner vulnerability. Mostly comic, dances like nobody’s watching.  Kooky and fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown. Actress who sings. (Chiquitita, Dancing Queen, Super Trooper, Take a Chance on Me, among others)  Must move well. (mezzo-soprano) E3-D5

Sam Carmichael - One of Sophie’s Potential fathers and a wealthy architect. Sam has regretted leaving Donna all his life and now finds himself divorced and back in her presence. He is straight-laced, confident and composed. At times he is perhaps a little over-bearing, but he is determined not to mess up the second chance he has been given… a very true and honest character within the chaos. (S.O.S., Thank You for the Music, Knowing Me Knowing You, among others) Actor who sings. (baritone) D3-Ab4

Harry Bright - Another of Sophie’s potential fathers and a respected London banker. Wealthy, buttoned-up, and conservative but trying to reconnect with his freer, youthful self. Should be able to do a convincing English accent. (Thank You for the Music, Our Last Summer, among others.) Also an actor who sings. (high baritone/tenor) C#3-F#4

Bill Austin -  Another of Sophie’s potential fathers, a well-known travel writer, Bill has visited the far reaches of the earth but never found what he’s really looking for. A real character, Bill has generally avoided the complexities of a relationship and now wonders if it’s too late. Lots of comedy and a golden heart within. (Thank You for the Music, The Name of the Game, Take a Chance on Me, among others) Funny. (baritone) Bb2-F#4

Sky - Sophie’s fiancé. Athletic – has given up his life as a successful young businessman in order to make over Donna’s taverna and marry Sophie. (Lay All Your Love on Me, among others) Must move well. (high baritone) Eb3-D5

Ali - Sophie’s friend. Impulsive and fun. Should contrast to Lisa and Sophie. (Honey Honey, among others) (mezzo-soprano) G3-D5

Lisa - Sophie’s friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid. Very energetic and kooky. Should sing and dance well. (Honey Honey, among others) (mezzo-soprano) G3-Db5

Pepper - Sky’s friend. Helps run the hotel. Charming, loves women, always flirting. Must be a good dancer. Acrobatic skills a plus. (Take a Chance on Me, among others) (high baritone/tenor) A4-F5

Eddie - A waiter, boatman and handyman at the Taverna. Another friend of Sky and hotel worker. Laid-back, easygoing.  (high baritone/tenor) (Ensemble numbers)

Father Alexandrios - The minister who officiates Sophie’s wedding. A Greek Orthodox priest, this is a potentially delightful little role for a character actor with some imagination. A nice little turn in Act 2 for someone who doesn’t want too much to sing. (Finale Numbers)

ENSEMBLE - The ensemble plays a wide variety of roles singing and dancing.
